I think we can all agree that 2012 gave us some great games to occupy our time with. There was a multitude of quality triple-AAA games to choose from, though admittedly it was sequel heavy. But bolstering great games like Mass Effect 3, Halo 4 and Black Ops II was an excellent, an unexpected selection of smaller releases, like Walking Dead and Journey and Mark of the Ninja, to round off and incredibly diverse year. If you weren’t able to find at least one games last year that blew you away, then you have no business calling yourself a gamer.
But a new year, means new games and hopefully 2013 will have our hands as full as 2012 did. To make a things a little bit easier for you, the Mweb Gamezone team has compiled a list of upcoming games to look out for divided by format. Today, it's the turn of the Playstation 3.
Okay, okay. I'll admit that Puppeteer probably hasn't made it on to most peoples most anticipated PS3 game list, but it did make ours. Why? Because Puppeteer is is going to something original, both in how its played and how it presents itself. The idea that that game is a puppet performance with an audience in tow is such a fresh idea, we just needs to know how this actually plays out.
On the one hand Dust 514 isn't the most original concept, there are tons of quality free-to-play shooter available nowadays. But Dust separates itself in that it doesn't just set itself into an existing MMO universe, EVE Online to be precise, but actually integrates its gameplay with the with that game. So what you have is two games with completely disparate gameplay styles and completely different audiences playing together. Its just too an ambitious idea to ignore.
3. BEYOND: TWO SOULS
I agree, that the gameplay for Heavy Rain was extremely shallow, but it was still an engaging game. This year developer Quantic Dreams will release their follow-up. Like Heavy Rain, Beyond: Two Souls is aiming to have a high cinematic quotient, but unlike Heavy Rain, this time around we'll have more than point and click style gameplay.
2. GOD OF WAR: ASCENSION
This year the Ghost of Sparta returns. Considering the success of the of the original God of War trilogy, no one should be surprised that Kratos is back. Most likely it will be more of the same, but when you consider the high standard of gameplay these games have always offered, I would regard that as a high point. Plus, the game will be releases with a new multiplayer mode, which seems like crazy idea, but we're willing to give the team the benefit of the doubt.
1. THE LAST OF US
Naughty Dog have yet to release a bum game and with their strong track record, expectation for the Last of Us is through the roof. Set in a post-apocalyptic world, where society has gone all to hell and the surviving humans may be just as monstrous as the zombies that plague, Last of Us is the game that hopes to finally get the AI partner thing right. And given some of the recent gameplay videos on show, it looks like they're on their way to doing it.
