My fascination with cyberpunk is no secret, I’m a purist and not ashamed of it. I have therefore been keeping a close eye on the development of Cyberpunk 2077. The game is being developed by CD Projekt Red (Witcher 2), under the guidance of Mike Pondsmith, a legend when it comes to Cyberpunk games.

Let’s take a look at the first trailer that shows of, not surprisingly, an action scene.

As I’ve stated in my previous article “Cyberpunk, more than high tech and low life”, Cyberpunk is about cybernetics, the anti-hero, moral ambiguity, the underbelly of humanity, a nihilistic view on life. It has a specific sound; a gritty and beaten look; a certain vibe – typically one of desperation and a particular feeling about how life is perceived. It’s about tech that replaces organic, about being other and about a way to survive in chaos. Beating the system, surviving dystopia and navigating through the digital spider web of the Mega Corporation, these are the central themes of the cyberpunk ideology.

If Cyberpunk 2077’s focus is going to be to deliver a game that is mostly about balls to the wall action, mind blowing physics and futuristic looking characters, then I am going to be extremely disappointed.

I beg of you, capture the dark heartbeat that is Cyberpunk. What are your expectations for the game?
