If you want to get technical about it, this Retro Friday is more movie-ish than game-ish, even though it's about a game and not a movie. Well it's kind of about a game and movie, but it's really the movie that's all retro and not the game, because the game is technically (there's that word again) not retro, although in a way it could be... You know what never mind. Moving on.
The classic Spielberg blockbuster movie Jurassic Park celebrates its 20th Anniversary this year. While you clench all the muscles in head in an attempt to prevent you mind getting blown as that realisation sets it, I'll also remind you that the 90s weren't ten years ago.
Anyway, where were we, oh yes, Jurassic Park. Wouldn't it be cool if there was a game coming out to commemorate this momentous occasion? A game to really do justice to the idea of being trapped on a South American island with the greatest beasts to ever walk the earth.Well none of the major game studios are working on a project like that, as far as I know anyway, but a game celebrating Spielberg's cinematic milestone is in the works from a group of dedicated fans.
Jurassic Life is a fan made mod that uses Half-Life 2's Source Engine as its base. While I don't think the team intended for the mod to coincide with the movie's 20th Anniversary - they've been coding away for six years - it seems fortuitous that the game is nearing completion in this year.
As far as I can tell this game looks to finally replicate my own personal dream of playing hunter/hunted with a T-Rex
and some velociraptors. Smells like uber-fun to me.
Check out the trailer for the upcoming mod below and you can get more info on it here.
