Software developer Riot Games have announced the ban of professional League of Legends player Christian “IWillDominate” Rivera. He will be suspended from playing in the LoL Championship Series for one year and all his other known accounts have been perma-banned from the game. Why all the ban-hammer beatings you ask? Well, it boils down to the fact that pretty much, he was one of those guys who studied really hard for his Degree in Toolology. According to Riot’s post in the LoL forums, he had been brought before their disciplinary body, The Tribunal, nine times for his naughty in-game behaviour. It was finally decided that
“His persistent tendency to engage in verbal abuse and insults, his lack of cordial demeanor, and his treatment of less-skilled players is unacceptable for any player, especially a high-profile professional player who has a regular opportunity to lead the community by example.”
League of Legends is a game well-known
for its enormous population of trolls and generally annoying people within the community.
It’s always necessary to be a good sportsman (especially at a professional
level) but in my honest opinion, I do think that in a way the developers are
making an example of IWillDominate to show their low tolerance for this sort of
nonsense. Hopefully this move on their part will mean that people will start
being slightly kinder to each other on the servers (although it probably won’t).
