The intense fury so often evoked by gaming is something that I’ve been dealing with a lot over the past while and I’m not sure how I feel about it all to be honest. On the one hand, I’m sure that some psychologist somewhere said that it’s better to release your rage at the time you feel it because bottling it up will turn you into a mass-murderer or something like that. On the other hand, I’m saying that it’s possible that I may have once destroyed my laptop 2 days before my dissertation was due because I raged and smashed the keyboard so hard that the hard-drive underneath broke and wouldn’t read. I am a very-happy-go-lucky soul, but I really fail to understand why someone would bother to make a game if YOU CAN’T EVEN WIN OMFG.

Online, statistics dictate that there should be at the very least 4 or 5 of us that are passably intelligent enough to construct eloquent, logical arguments as to why it’s very silly to get so angry over what is at the end of the day, a game that we are supposed to be playing for fun. However, the heat of the moment doesn’t lend itself to such things. My friend Dan, who plays DoTA, likes to ping the offending player repeatedly on the map while muttering “killyourselfkillyourselfkillyourself.” Maybe it’s genetic, but for both me and my brother the rage begins as a quiet muttering and explodes into something enormous, exothermic and completely glorious. Our extensive vocabularies are utilised to create a plethora of expletives that can be used as verbs, adjectives and one wonderful time, as a preposition.

Grant "Daskill" Campbell says that Gamer Rage is like road rage, but in the comfort of your own home and I am inclined to agree. It's ok to get cross as long as we don't smash too many things in the manner of a certain anonymous green comic book character who you won't like when he's angry. And with that I present you with the most fantastic compilation of gamers breaking various things because it's just so great:
