Deadline is reporting that CBS Films has founded a director for the upcoming Deus Ex: Human Revolution. Scott Derrickson has been signed to both direct and script the film, which will be set in cyberpunk future.

Derrickson's former films include the horror hits Sinister and The Exorcism Of Emily Rose, plus the Keanu Reeves, sci-fi shambles, The Day the Earth Stood Still. That sci-fi pedigree (or lack thereof) isn't inspiring much confidence, but at least Derrickson and his co-writer, C. Robert Cargill, took the time to actually play the original, before deciding to do the movie.

“Deus Ex is a phenomenal cyberpunk game with soul and intelligence. By combining amazing action and tension with big, philosophical ideas, Deus Ex is smart, ballsy, and will make one hell of a movie. Cargill and I can’t wait to bring it to the big screen.” Derrickson said.

The signing of a director is a pretty positive sign that the movie will actually happen. That alongside yesterday's news about the Splinter Cell movie hiring actor Tom Hardy for it's lead, seems to be an indication the videogames-to-movies are finally starting to be taken seriously.
