We are once again reaching that period in the annual life cycle of the Call of Duty series, where the initial excitement has faded and the door to the monotonous game play opens. However, there are ways to avoid this initial phase shift of emotions, and one of the best methods is by speculating about the next Call of Duty title. So without further anticipation lets break into all the juicy information that we know about the next title in the series.
The next Call of Duty title is expected to be Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 (MW4). I, however, believe that this will not be the case due to the huge similarity with the name of the first Modern Warfare title (Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare) which could cause confusion with sales. The claim of the next title being MW4 is pushed even further away, since the team who developed all three Modern Warfare titles, Infinity Ward, has believed to been replaced by Neversoft.
Neversoft is not known for the development of any First Person Shooters, rather the company is a well recognized brand largely due to its hugely famous Tony Hawk series. The Studio's home page has seemingly confirmed their involvement with the Call of Duty logo, as it is at the front and center of the site. So, lets just hope that the next title doesn't integrate the past and present of Activision, skateboard killstreak anyone?
One of the latest pieces of information regarding the next title in the Call of Duty series relates to the following image:
This image, after many update, seems to be fake due to the release date of the title. The Call of Duty series is well known for being released on Tuesday and unfortunately 11-11-13 falls on a Monday. So this photo could well be fake. The poster has brought up an interesting discussion of what the next Call of Duty title could be. The wording "Back to basics" brings a huge amount of possibilities, but also brings with it huge excitement for veterans of the series. Many players are favoring the argument that the title will see a redevelopment of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4. Where the franchise will stick to traditional options, but also incorporate the new game modes and camera features (such as killcams) that have developed throughout the franchise.
Earlier this month Activision confirmed that there will be another Call of Duty title by stating the following:
"The Call of Duty franchise continues to set the bar for innovation and we expect the new Call of Duty game in development for 2013 to raise that bar even higher" -Hirshberg, CEO of Activision Publishing
We certainly hope that the next and possibly last title of the Call of Duty franchise to hit current generation consoles is something we can look forward to, but until then lets get back on to the annual roller coaster that is the life cycle of the franchise.
