What a night of headshots, team co-ordination, semtex and “Agile” jump shots and manoeuvres. If none of this brings back intense Modern Warfare 3 flashbacks, you must have been watching Harry Potter on Sunday night.
Clan Connection, working in orchestrated pincer movements with the precise MWEB GameZone team, hosted the Finals of the Modern Warfare 3 Tournament which included some of the best gameplay by two of the top Xbox360 Clans in South Africa; Xtaz and NBSz (Nothing But Skillz).
During the final, over 400 gamers from around South Africa were treated to the first ever live streamed XBOX MW3 tournament, sourced directly through MWEB’s gaming prioritised ISP architecture with sublime commentary and a live twitter feed. Tweets from enthusiastic gamers saw #ClanConnection trend in first place not only in Cape Town but in South Africa - a massive achievement for gaming in South Africa! Big thanks to Glenn Alexander for manning the Tweet decks.
At 8pm, in the MCave, and for the first time in South Africa streamed live, Xtaz managed to edge off NBSz 3-1 in the finals across rounds of Search and Destroy, Capture the Flag and Domination modes to be crowned the first ever Clan Connection Champions and take home R3000 in Kalahari vouchers!
The action was fast and fierce and running under a stringent ruleset watched by hundreds of South Africans, Xtaz got off to an amazing start in Search and Destroy, picking off Augi’s team (NBSz) who had a tentative start making use of a cautious approach that hampered their performance. Phobia’s team (Xtaz) pulled off some amazing drop shots and took the game away early on.
Heading into CTF modes we witnessed why these teams had earned their dog tags with some of the fiercest and fast paced action, all streamed with the commentary from MW3 vet HoldenZA and GameZone’s Grant Hinds. Buzzing with great co-ordination and impressive skills from many people’s player of the finals, Agile James, the deadlock could not be broken. After multiple maps and over 30 mins of fervent headshots, double kills and drop shots, the match moved on to Domination to settle the feud.
The battlefield was set for Arakaden, the mall of terror, and teams battled to gain control of the central point and the first round was separated by only one point, leading fans at home to believe the deadlock would not be broken. Cometh the round, cometh the men, and Xtaz leapt to a whole new level in the second round, dominating and controlling the upper central levels of the mall, leading to a complete domination period that secured the victory and took them home, after a hard fight back from NBSz.
So in a single final from the MCave, Xtaz was crowned the Clan Connection Clan Challenge Champions, while NBSz can truly hold their heads high.
We’d like to thank the community, the Clans, the viewers and the amazing team at MWEB GameZone that made this all possible. Clan Connections runs for you, and this is just the beginning. Congrats to Xtaz, our first Champions and stay tuned for all the recruitment notices upcoming for gamers in South Africa.
Future events will include PS3 Tournaments and more XBOX Tournaments, so keep watching this space.
