Everybody’s got that annoying dad story, the one where your father (or uncle) gets up and says something wildly embarrassing or tries to dance in front of a group of people to impress them. It’s a dad and uncle’s job to embarrass you.
This latest story is probably the most embarrassingly awkward and awesome thing a dad could possibly do. It’s as if two universes collided and you don’t know whether to high-five the guy or usher him into a reflective timeout.
A father of a sickly 1 year-old daughter who was born with Tetralogy of Fallot, a congenital heart condition that’s deadly if untreated, decided to pull the ultimate thank you after doctors operated on her in a risky operation that saved her life. His name is Julian Hill and his ultimate thank you: Singing SingStar for a full 24 hours.
Now I’m not sure why this is a successful way to say thank you. Quite frankly, if I were the surgeons, I’d rather he just shook my hand and got on with it. Somehow Julian agrees: "Who doesn't want to hear 'Mysterious Girl' or 'I Am The One and Only' by a 30-year-old sleep-deprived and completely sober man?"
Sony and SingStar are backing the man, but I’m wondering if his daughter’s going to feel the same in 16 years time. I have a feeling she’s going to want him to park around the corner before dropping her off at school...
Jokes aside, it’s an extremely honourable thing to do and you can help support his cause by donating money through Just Giving.
