Halo fans beware. If you've received an invite to sign up for the Halo 4 beta, ignore it. The invite is most likely part of a phishing scam. The site linked to the invites, Halo4beat.net is not associated with the Microsoft or development studio, 343 Industries.
David Ellis, creative director of Microsoft’s 343 Industries, issued warnings about the scam a of weeks ago when the scam first came to light. The site has reportedly been shut down since, but Microsoft has chosen to file a complaint with the US-based National Arbitration Forum to ensure the site is permanently shut down.
As one of the most anticipated games of 2012, invites to Halo 4's inevitable multiplayer beta are likely to be highly sought after.
