In an extremely brief news bite on the
Reuters website, Nintendo President, Satoru Iwata, has confirmed the Japanese entertainment giant's next console will be released this year in time for Christmas. Speaking to reporters in Osaka, Iwata said the Wii successor, dubbed the Wii U, would be released in the four key markets of the United States, Europe, Australia and Japan.
The news follows from the consoles unveiling last June at the Electronic Entertainment Expo in Los Angeles, where the new devices ground-breaking touchscreen control system and next generation graphics technology was on display.
The Wii U will be the successor to Nintendo's highly successful Wii console which dominated the current generation of videogame consoles selling a staggering 90 million units.
