Slide background

Social Responsibility

We aim to empower South Africans from previously
disadvantaged communities and encourage them to
participate in the economy, especially through access to
the wonderful world of the Internet.

We invest in infrastructure, provide services, and create opportunities within the Information and Communications Technology sector. We focus on the Internet, technology and education. We work together with Silulo Ulutho Technologies and Afrika Tikkun to turn South Africans' dreams into realities.

Social Responsiblity

Silulo Ulutho Technologies

Silulo is an all-in-one provider of IT-related products and services, including computer training skills, business services, website development, computer and accessory retail sales as well as repair and maintenance services. Thus far we've invested over R2 million to bring the Internet to local communities. The result: Silulo has opened eight new centres in disadvantaged communities around South Africa and is already planning to open their next centre with MWEB's investment.

Afrika Tikkun

Afrika Tikkun is an NGO that works with previously disadvantaged children so that they can become productive citizens. They have a cradle-to-career model, which supports the development of children from early infancy through young adulthood and into the world of work.

We partnered with Afrika Tikkun in 2014 sponsoring career readiness computer training courses for unemployed youth in township areas.

We care

We sponsor Internet connectivity for various individuals and small NGOs including the National Sea Rescue Institute of South Africa at 13 of their locations around the country. We also sponsor bursaries for deserving students at tertiary institutions and internships for qualified students, many of which go on to join our staff.

Other acts of kindness include our RAK nomination. We invited pupils from Luhlaza High School in Khayelitsha to MWEB. They were given the opportunity to play computer and console games, enjoy lunch and have some fun. To ensure that these learners continue to get an opportunity to engage on the Internet, we donated computers and connectivity to the school as well as tablets with MWEB Mobile Data connectivity.

We've spent our 67 minutes for Madiba on Mandela Day in various ways. We dropped off non-perishable food, toiletries and clothing for the homeless at the Edem Night Shelter, we hosted a party and donated toiletries to all the kids at the Al Noor orphanage, and we spent quality time with the kids at the Paarl School for Disabled, amongst others.

As a staff group, we care about communities around us. We do annual collection drives over the festive season which includes toy collections for sick children in hospitals, blankets for the homeless, food for the poor and stationary for less fortunate kids.
