Social Responsibility

MWEB's Corporate Social Investment (CSI) programme was established to address development issues in South Africa. We aim to empower people from previously disadvantaged communities to participate in the modern economy by investing in infrastructure, providing services and creating opportunities within the Information and Communications Technology sector.

We focus on education:

Our primary focus is on bursary support for deserving students at tertiary level. We also provide support to selected tertiary institutions through Internet connectivity and computer hardware. MWEB focuses on Internships for qualified students.

Over the past three years, MWEB has invested R1.45m in Silulo Ulutho Technologies, a chain of Internet cafés and computer training centres in the Western Cape, to increase the availability and affordability of Internet access in underserviced communities.

Silulo, in 2011, opened its latest store in Blue Downs in the Western Cape, which is the fourth of five stores to be opened with the assistance of MWEB’s investment.

The first three were opened in Khayelitsha, Philippi and Du Noon. The fifth shop is planned for Delft. In the last year, Silulo has also been able to train over 1 600 people and currently has 60 staff.
